Secret to Improved Vaginal Health

Concerned about Yeast Infections and Bacterial Vaginosis?

You are not alone

Not only will most women have to deal with one or both of these two common forms of vaginitis at some point in their lives, many will get infections over and over again.

Vaginitis affects women not just physically, but sexually and emotionally as well. It can be especially hard on self-esteem. When an outbreak occurs, women may feel embarrassed in addition to the concern of how this will affect their overall health.

New Breakthrough in Vaginal Health

Today, we know much more about why women have these vaginal health issues than ever before.

By taking a pro-active approach to their vaginal health, women can help prevent these and other vaginal issues from occurring in the first place...

Because when it comes to vaginitis – PREVENTION is key. However, should you get an infection, it is important to contact your doctor.

Concerned about
Vaginal Odor?

A slight vaginal odor is normal, and can vary throughout a woman’s menstrual cycle. There is typically more discharge mid-cycle, which can have some odor, and some odor after sex is common.

However, lasting unpleasant vaginal odor is most likely from having unbalanced vaginal bacteria.

Maintaining a Healthy Vaginal pH

Yes, your vagina has a pH and your OB-GYN is very concerned about it. You should be too! Why?...

Because your vaginal health is directly linked to your Vaginal pH. If it gets too high (too alkaline) then you create an environment for bad bacteria or yeast to take over and cause an infection.

A normal healthy vagina comes has normal vaginal pH around 3.8 to 4.5, which if you remember from chemistry class, means an acidic environment. That acidic environment is everything when it comes to your vaginal health – it’s your vagina’s natural defense system!

A vaginal pH above 4.5 is where you can start having problems because it can make you susceptible to the growth of bad, infection-causing bacteria or yeast.

Microbiome

Your Vaginal
Microbiome

Did you know that, next to your gut, you’ve
got more bacteria, both good and bad, in your vagina than anywhere else in your body?

This is called your vaginal microbiome. Science has discovered that it's the bacterial balance in your vaginal microbiome, maintaining enough healthy bacteria down there to keep your vagina acidic, that is key to maintaining vaginal health.

Healthy “probiotic” vaginal bacteria produce lactic acid that acidifies the vagina. And it’s that healthy acidic environment in the vagina that keeps yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis at bay!

Maintaining Vaginal Bacteria
Balance

Maintaining Vaginal
Bacteria Balance

So, if your bacterial balance is off, meaning you don’t have enough healthy vaginal bacteria, it will cause vaginal pH to rise.

This creates a hospitable environment for bad bacteria like Gardnerella vaginalis, a bacteria that causes Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), or Candida albicans, a yeast that causes vaginal Yeast Infections.

The primary cause of BV or Yeast Infections is not having enough of certain healthy probiotic bacteria in the vagina.

Probiotic Levels

A rise in vaginal pH occurs when good vaginal bacteria levels are depleted. Most of your good vaginal bacteria, over 80% for most women, are Lactobacilli probiotics. These lactobacilli probiotics produce lactic acid which acidifies the vagina... keeping it free of bacteria or yeast overgrowth that can cause infections.

Lovebug is loaded with lactobacilli probiotics, over 90 billion CFU, to help assure vaginal flora is balanced... keeping vaginal pH levels in a healthy range!

15 Strains - 90 Billion CFUs ‡

Lovebug uses a combination of targeted daily vaginal probiotics to help keep your vaginal pH in a healthy range – the key to maintaining vaginal health at any age.

Formulated by Lovebug, the leader in women’s probiotics, Lovebug provides comprehensive probiotic vaginal support with 15 different strains of the most critical probiotic to vaginal health, Lactobacilli.

Daily Replenishment Probiotics: Lactobacilli

Lactobacilli probiotics are the most abundant bacteria found in the vagina, about 80% all vaginal bacteria for most women.

These good bacteria inhibit the growth of bad vaginal bacteria and yeast by producing lactic acid that keeps the vagina acidic (healthy vaginal pH is 3.8-4.5). By creating an environment that keeps the vaginal flora balanced, this prevents bad bacteria or yeast overgrowth.

Urinary Tract Health

Lovebug is also a premium urogenital support supplement, providing three key ingredients shown to support urinary health as well.

The first is a Organic Whole Cranberry Powder from North American cranberries, called “Pacran”. With multiple patents awarded for urinary health, Pacran was clinically shown to reduce UTIs by over 50% in women that experience recurrent UTIs.

Lovebug also includes Garlic, which has antimicrobial properties to further help block the growth of bad bacteria in the urinary tract, like e-coli, the bacteria that causes most UTIs.

To complete Lovebug’s urinary health support blend, Vitamin C is added to help keep urine naturally acidic, creating an unfriendly environment for bad bacteria to grow.

What Experts Want You To Know about Vaginitis

Yeast Infections and Bacterial Vaginosis - What's the difference and why is that important?

Knowledge is power when it comes to your health.

This is especially true when it comes to vaginal health. Maintaining optimal vaginal health is easy... once you know the basics!

Maintaining a healthy vaginal pH (in the 3.8 to 4.5 range) is the most important thing you can do to help prevent bad bacteria and yeast from taking hold and causing infections, which can lead to the uncomfortable symptoms listed below.

Vaginal pH is thrown off when the vaginal bacterial balance is disrupted.

There are several reasons why your vaginal bacteria can be out of balance. This imbalance

of bacteria is the root cause for Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and Yeast infections.

It's important to be able to recognize the symptoms and know the difference.

Top 10 Things
That Can Throw Off
Vaginal
Bacterial Balance...

and Lead to BV or Yeast Infections

Taking antibiotics (for anything) temporarily wipes out some of your good vaginal bacteria and can put you at risk. Most antibiotics can't distinguish between good and bad bacteria, that means they can wreak havoc on your protective healthy vaginal bacteria.

Hormonal changes from taking birth control, or pregnancy, or even sometimes menstruation.

Smoking. Women who smoke, even women exposed to second-hand smoke, are at higher risk for recurrent BV at more than twice the level of non-smokers. Smoking not only weakens your immune system, it actually creates vaginal secretions that attack healthy vaginal lactobacilli and promotes bad bacteria.

Blood Sugar Issues is a risk factor for Yeast Infections. The reason for this is simple, yeast feeds off of sugar. If diabetes isn't well-controlled, then blood sugar levels can spike. This increase can lead to sugar in your vaginal mucus which causes vaginal candida yeast to grow.

A weak immune system provides an environment for Candida yeast to grow and take over.

Douching or other excessive “cleansing” methods and fragrant sprays, all of these strip good bacteria and can make you vulnerable.

Having sex with a new partner. BV is not an STI, however many doctors believe that a new partner's genital chemistry can alter your vaginal bacteria balance enough to trigger BV.

Improper hygiene, such as wiping back to front or having anal then vaginal sex without cleaning up in between.

Leaving tampons or pads in too long can lead to yeast or other infections.

Tight underwear or clothes that don’t breathe well create a warm, moist environment. Sitting around in damp sweaty workout clothes or a wet swimsuit is not good either. Candida yeast likes moist and wet.

Prevention Tips

1.

Use antibiotics only when you
have to

Too often people take antibiotics when they have a virus, like a cold. Antibiotics aren’t for viruses. If you don't have to take them and can safely avoid it, then don’t.

2.

Avoid all scented vaginal
products

It can be tempting to reach for a fragrant cleaning product when you have odor symptoms, but those fragrant vaginal washes and sprays, douches or scented tampons can disrupt your vaginal pH, so don’t use them.

3.

Be mindful of your underwear
and other clothing choices

Wear underwear that’s made from natural, breathable, absorbent fabrics, like cotton. Avoid wearing tight fitting or restrictive clothing for long periods of time. Wash your underwear in a hypoallergenic detergent.

Go panty-free at night to prevent moisture buildup. Change your underwear during the day if you notice a lot of moisture buildup or irritation.

Don’t hang out in a wet swimsuit or in sweaty exercise wear after the gym.

4.

Use Condoms

Semen has an alkalizing effect on the vagina, which increases your risk for BV. There are some great condom options out there, find one that works best for you and your partner and use them.

5.

Limit sugar intake

Also, if you have trouble keeping sugar intake limited, take measures to control it.

6.

Keep your immune system strong

I’m a big proponent of getting proper sleep, exercise and eating a healthy diet as the best way to keep your immune system strong.

7.

Don’t leave tampons in too long

To be on the safe side, most experts now recommend leaving tampons in 4 to 6 hours is optimal. In addition to BV, if you go past 8 hours it could lead to other serious bacterial issues as well.

8.

Quit smoking

As if you need yet another reason to quit, smoking both weakens your immune system and directly affects your vaginal flora, making you more susceptible to BV and Yeast Infections.

9.

Stay away from home remedies

Of course, some content you get from the internet can be helpful, but too often it’s full of health advice from people who are not trained experts in that health topic. Internet home remedies can be harmful and dangerous, such as inserting food or other objects inside. Please get your health advise from only trusted and trained people in that health field.

10.

Take Lovebug daily to replenish healthy vaginal bacteria

And maintain an optimal vaginal balance and pH. The complete targeted vaginal health and urogenital support probiotic supplement, Lovebug, is the one I recommend to all women to help maintain balanced vaginal flora and healthy vaginal pH levels.

Causes & Avoiding UTIs

The Dreaded Urinary Tract Infection

The other urogenital health issue that women need to be diligent about is urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Causes of Urinary
Tract Infections

The primary cause of UTIs is an overgrowth of bad bacteria, primarily e-coli. There are many ways you can end up with a UTI.

There’s hygiene issues, such as wiping back to front after a bowel movement, or you can get it from sex, or if you have some other kidney or urinary issues... and other ways too.

Even things like not emptying your bladder fully when you pee can trigger a UTI. Here’s an overview of UTI symptoms (if you feel you may a UTI, please contact your doctor)

UTI Prevention

The best way to avoid UTIs and the frequent urination, burning and other unpleasant symptoms that come with them is obvious... take measures to avoid them in the first place!

This means making certain small lifestyle changes to help prevent them. The key is doing things that help keep the bad bacteria out, while also creating an environment in the body where the bad bacteria is less likely to take hold and thrive.

Here’s Urologist’s Lovebog’s top tips...

LoveBug’s® The ABCs of UTIs Helpful Urinary
Tract Infection Prevention Tips

1.

Don’t hold your urine

Make sure you urinate when you feel the urge and don’t hold it or try go on a schedule.

2.

Always empty your bladder completely when peeing

3.

Urinate both before and after sex

4.

Wipe from front to back

Bacteria tend to hang around the anus. If you wipe from front to back, especially after a bowel movement, they're less likely to make it to the urethra.

5.

Drink plenty of water, and urinate often

One of the keys to preventing a UTI is to flush bacteria out of the bladder and urinary tract before it can set in. If you’re well-hydrated then it will be tough to go too long without urinating. So commit to drinking more water... there’s so many health benefits!

6.

Wash up before sex

Having sex can sometimes cause urinary tract infections in women because bacteria can be pushed into the urethra. So use soap and water before sex, this helps keeps bacteria away from the urethra. And again, urinating after sex helps push bacteria that may have entered the urinary tract back out.

7.

Avoid potentially irritating feminine products

Like with vaginitis prevention, stay away from douches, deodorant sprays, scented powders and other potentially irritating feminine products.

8.

Switch to cotton underwear and other lifestyle tweaks

If you are prone to UTIs then switch to primarily cotton underwear, and avoid tight clothes that can trap bacteria near the urethra. Also take showers instead of baths, if possible.

9.

Consider a change in birth control

For some women, using a diaphragm can lead to infections because diaphragms push against the urethra and make it harder to completely empty your bladder.

Also, a diaphragm, spermicide or spermicide-lubricated condom can make you more likely to get a UTI because they all can contribute to bacterial growth.

If you get UTIs and use one of these birth control methods, then switch to a water-based lubricant, and consider trying another birth control method.

10.

Take Lovebug daily for your urogenital health support

Here’s my top four reasons why Lovebug is such an effective urinary health supplement and why I recommend it:

First thing you need nutritionally to help prevent future UTIs is targeted urogenital probiotics. Your urogenital flora should be predominantly made up of Lactobacilli, like the Lactobacilli probiotics that you get in Lovebug. They push out uro-pathogens, like e-coli, that are responsible for 95% of all UTIs.

Next is cranberry. Now I don’t advise drinking cranberry juice because it’s loaded with sugar and not potent enough. What Lovebug provides is a sugar-free, concentrated full spectrum cranberry extract called Pacran, which was clinically shown to help reduce the rate of recurrent UTIs, by directly reducing e-coli levels.

The third urogenital health support ingredient in Lovebug is Garlic extract. Garlic has antimicrobial properties to further help block the growth of bad bacteria in the urinary tract.

And number four is the addition Vitamin C to Lovebug. This is important because daily Vitamin C helps keep urine naturally acidic, which creates a healthy urinary tract environment, and an unfriendly environment for bad bacteria to grow.

You have Questions.
We have answers.

What is Vaginal pH?
Vaginal pH refers to the acidity level of the vagina, a healthy vagina is in the 3.8 to 4.5 range. This healthy range is maintained by having enough good bacteria in the vagina (called vaginal probiotics). The majority of good bacteria are in the Lactobacilli family.

If there are not enough good bacteria in the vagina, then vaginal pH can rise, creating an environment for “opportunistic” pathogens like Candida (the yeast that causes Vaginal Yeast Infections) or Gardnerella (the bacteria behind Bacterial Vaginosis) to grow rapidly, resulting in vaginitis. It can also lead to vaginal dryness and other vaginal health concerns.

Lovebug provides the right targeted vaginal Lactobacilli and other vaginal probiotics to help keep a healthy vaginal bacteria balance providing a healthy Vaginal pH.
